No matter how simple or complicated a fair project science is the scientific method should be applied. If you use a format based day science fair project, which will make weekend or a long-term, more intense, the same steps should be followed or the results are not valid! It is the process to go through what counts. Scientific experiments are designed to prove or disprove a question. Children are expected to learn how most research laboratories belying a more complete to prove it. Using information from things that do not work often ends up giving scientist a better idea for the next experiment may be the solution-seeking. What is the scientific method? Here is a brief description:
Step One is to observe. This means you notice things around you. You can see when a night light not working, or some shampoos you like clean hair better than others.
Step Two is the question. These things can be seen trigger some questions. Why did the night work lamp last, but not this morning? What does this shampoo that is different than the other?
Step Three hypothesis. After that it is to start thinking about possible answers. Maybe the bulb. From May to be worse than the generic brand.
Step Four is the experiment. Try a few things. Shake the bulb, check to see if still connected, or put a new bulb in. Try using different brands and different ingredients.
Step Five are the results. In the experiments that use the results to make a series of conclusions demonstrated. No, the change the bulb did not solve the problem, there must be something else. Yes, the generic brand was worse, but it was because of the ingredients, not the cost.
We use This basic thought process all the time when troubleshooting. A science experiment only needs to be organized through these steps and you are good.
