My HDTV is so dark after replacing the lamp. What happens?

I just had my lamp replaced Samsumg DLP TV and color quality has dropped dramatically. Dark images on the screen are black and almost unrecognizable. Also, I think the picture is not as vibrant or sharp. I've been playing with color controls in vain. A number of factors could have an impact on the problem. They are: # 1 Is the new lamp failure?
